Hampstead Hive Member Spotlight - Tanya Sanyal

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS..

Organised Joy is the professional organising service I launched in 2021. The mission is to help busy people make space for joy, both physically and mentally. I use scientifically proved positive psychological tools such as gratitude, visualisation, goal setting and mindfulness to help clients declutter their homes and transform them into organised sanctuaries.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST BUSINESS ACHIEVMENT SO FAR?

Before Organised Joy

Really, it is developing a steady pipeline of incredible clients who are juggling it all yet committing to themselves to make their home and life more simple and joyful. I am especially grateful to have racked up 1400 rewarding client hours in 2 years around my children’s school/nursery schedules (they have a lot of holidays!) and being invited to talk on stage at events such as the Ideal Home Show.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE NEXT?

Next, I would like to build up my coaching experience and take on more career/ life coaching clients alongside my in-home and online decluttering and organising business. I am halfway through my Masters (MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology) and there are so many parallels between a decluttering session and a life coaching session. It is all about finding clarity amidst the mental clutter and making space and time for the things that matter most to us. I think this is the skill we all need to keep working on in the modern age of distraction.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU LIKE TO OFFER SOMEONE THINKING OF ENTERING INTO YOUR FIELD?

After Organised Joy

First, think about your own approach to decluttering and organising with clients and whether you would benefit from some training. There are thousands of decluttering and organising businesses so think about your approach and individuality. You do not need formal training but my initial qualification route into the industry built my confidence starting out. I certified in Marie Kondo’s KonMari Method and used APDO - professional body of which I am a member - training resources. Second, start where you are by building up your client hours (you could start by offering a few free or discounted sessions to friends/acquaintances) and, crucially, reflecting on how each session went afterwards. It’s a cliche but you learn so much from every session and every client.

What is your favourite aspect of working in the local area?

Walking in our area (the high streets, residential streets, primrose hill, the heath and so on) is a real joy especially when it can be part of my commute to my clients’ homes. You may find me in our local coffee shops doing business admin or reading positive psychology books when I’m not with a client.

WHAT ENCOURAGED YOU TO JOIN HAMPSTEAD HIVE AND WHAT HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITHIN THE HIVEBEEN LIKE SO FAR?

I’ve met a supportive group whose individual entrepreneurial journeys fascinate and inspire me. I previously worked in sales on a busy trading floor for 12 years and whilst I don’t miss that job, I do miss having colleagues (as well as clients) to chat to. The Hive helps with this!
