Hampstead Hive Member Spotlight - Naomi Burns

Tell us about your business, what services do you offer?

I run Naomi Burns Physiotherapy. We are a team of dynamic physiotherapists who are passionate about helping people to feel better, move better and live better. We have a clinic in Radlett, where we are based and also do home visits all over NW London, providing high quality physiotherapy care in the comfort of people’s homes. Between us, we have a lot of skills that we love bringing to our sessions to help people, including acupuncture, clinical Pilates, massage, joint manipulation and exercise prescription. We treat patients from age 5+ all the way up to elderly, and cover a broad range of conditions, from post-op hip and knee replacements, to pregnancy-related pain, sports injuries, hypermobility and migraine. We love helping people to feel better and get back on the road to recovery.

What is your greatest business achievement so far?

I only started the business after the first lockdown, where I decided to go it alone, having spent 5 years working in the NHS and then a further five years working for private clinics in NW London. When Covid hit, I sat twiddling my thumbs for three months, unable to work and my patients were contacting me, desperate to know when I was going to be allowed to return to work. I decided to take the leap and handed in my notice during lockdown, so when I returned to work in June 2020, did so on my own. I am so grateful that my phone hasn’t stopped ringing and my little team is now growing with three physios and an admin staff. I feel so grateful to have been able to have grown so quickly. It’s been a rollercoaster but in the best possible way!

What do you want to achieve next?

The next goal is to set up a clinic in NW London, in addition to the Radlett clinic, to allow patients to come to see us, rather than exclusively providing home visits. There are conversations going on and hopefully we’ll have some exciting news to share soon - watch this space!

What one piece of advice would you like to offer someone thinking of entering into your field?

I would always encourage any budding physiotherapists or any other healthcare professional to spend time working in the NHS before branching off into private practice. As lovely as it is working privately in North West London, you just don’t get the same breadth of experience and training as you get in the NHS. I feel that this is a pre-requisite before starting to see patients privately and ensures that when you do, your patients are receiving the benefit of those years of supervision and training.

What is your favourite aspect about working in the local area?

I absolutely love working around this area. I meet people every day who have amazing stories to tell, and as a North West Londoner myself, this helps me relate to people. Plus I know all the best spots along my route to stop for a great coffee on my home visit days!

What encouraged you to join Hampstead Hive and what has your experience within the Hive been like so far?

The Hive has been such an amazing resource! It’s so great to be able to meet local business owners and become better known within the community.
