Hampstead Hive Member Spotlight - Varsha Kahtri

Tell us about your business, what services do you offer?

I like to refer to Illuminated Health as my first baby. I have a passion for health education and holistic health. I am a believer that prevention is preferable to cure and that when it comes to your health and wellbeing, your choices do matter. Its true, prevention isn’t always possible but I do envision a future in which we are all more proactive rather than reactive about our health. That is perhaps why I am drawn to Ayurveda and thus became an Ayurveda consultant. Ayurveda, is medicine that originates in India and although it contains a vast knowledge about health and medicine, it also has an entire branch dedicated to prevention of disease. As most forms of alternative medicine, the goal is always to prevent disease where possible, but when it’s not possible, to use natural remedies to regain balance of health. The alternative route is not the quickest route to find healing, but when committed to your wellbeing, it can certainly be effective. Through Ayurveda, it is not just about remedies, but rather its a whole-body approach in which diet and lifestyle is considered when working with clients.

I offer one-to-one consultations along with group courses and coaching addressing a variety of health concerns, ranging from gut health to self-care and prevention. I am also a published author: Think Healthy Choose Healthy, which is published by Balboa Press, A Division of Hay House.

What inspired you to start your business?

I started my business when I moved to the UK from California. Although I was born in London (my first home was near Queen’s Park), I was raised America. Specifically, I grew up in San Diego. I moved for love (aka I got married to my British soulmate) and instead of looking for a job, my husband encouraged me to follow my dream of starting my own business.

How long has your business been running for?

I’ve been in business for 10 years.

What is your favourite aspect about working in the local area?

The community and sense of belonging. For someone who has moved around quite a bit, to be a part of a community where my birth roots are feels refreshing and allows me to feel at ease.

Where do you see yourself and your business in five years time?

One of the reasons that I started my business was that I wanted to inspire healthy change and empower others to make healthier choices. For that reason, in 5 years, I would love to be a best selling author and through my courses and health education, inspiring people to use Ayurveda as a method to prevent disease and take better care of themselves.

What encouraged you to join Hampstead Hive and what has your experience been like so far within the Hive?

I was actually recommended to join Hampstead Hive through a friend, Natasha, and so far, I love it. I’m able to not only grow my business and network, but I am making friends in the process which is wonderful.
