Interview - Aya, owner of Pivoine Nails

How long have you been based in the NW3 area? Why did you choose Belsize Village for your business?

I've been in the area for a year now. We opened our doors to Belsize Village on Tuesday April 18th 2017. Belsize Village has its charm. It's exactly the place I needed to be, somewhere calm away from the city, surrounded by sweet residents and local businesses helping each other to grow.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where did you grow up, what did you do before you set up this business?

I'm originally from Iran, born in London, and raised in Canada. Never been to Iran unfortunately. I started working part time at the age of 16 for an international real estate company in both the BDR department and marketing communications department. I also worked for a marketing & PR agency managing F&B accounts. At the age of 23 I was a Business Development Manager in an FMCG company, managing brands such as FemFresh, Pearl Drops, and other brands nationwide. I decided to leave Kuwait and pursue my masters at Kings College in International Marketing. After that, I worked for a company called Bear & Urban Fruit (Bear Yoyos), doing business development, working with Waitrose, Wholewoods and other accounts in the UK.

Describe your business in 5 words.

Feminine, meticulous, delicate, happy, real

OK, now in a few sentences

What sets your business apart? Any USP.

We stress on hygiene here at Pivoine. Everything is sterilised, twice. We only use the best of brands, the longest lasting of polishes and we don't charge extra. We're honest and we wouldn't sell you something you do not need. Our technicians are all meticulous, precise, and friendly.

Anything you really wished the Hampstead Mums knew?

We know it's difficult sometimes to arrange times for yourselves when you have a family to look after. You're more than welcome to bring your baby/child with you. No need to feel embarrassed if your baby starts crying, it's ok! Do not worry, we've seen it all.

Best celeb spot you've seen in your shop?

Emma Stone! It was unbelievable. At that point when she came in, we've only been open for 3 months. We also have Sadie Frost, Gemima French and Arlene Phillips who also visit. Suzie Menkes too!

Any shout outs for local businesses?

Shout out to Olivers Village Cafe for always making my mornings special. Your coffee does me so much good! And Papa Dels, your chicken is awesome! Last but not least, Penrose Care, thank you for taking care of us always.
