Hampstead Hive Member Spotlight - Amy Langshaw
Tell us about your business, what services do you offer?
I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT) specialising in Parent-led cbt. CBT is a short term, goal orientated therapy working collaboratively to equip people with skills to achieve positive changes in their life. Parent-led cbt is about working with parents to help them manage and support their child’s mental wellbeing.
What is your greatest business achievement so far?
It would have to be completing my professional training during the pandemic, whilst home schooling my two boys who were at primary school at the time, and also set up my own business and watch it grow as our lives began to settle back into a new normal.
What do you want to achieve next?
Parent-led CBT is a reasonably new concept in comparison to other approaches in cognitive behaviour therapy. It combines my two passions of parent support and CBT, and I would love to begin to offer more workshops and support in this area. Follow my instagram for details of any workshops coming up.
What one piece of advice would you like to offer someone thinking of entering into your field?
If your passion is working and supporting others in a goal orientated approach, then I would highly recommend CBT. It is well worth speaking to others about their experience as there are different options for training either over two years, or one year intensive with IAPT. There are so many opportunities to work part time either for an agency, for the NHS, or setting up your own business. It’s hard work, and a steep learning curve working for yourself, but has been so rewarding seeing the business grow and clients achieving their goals for positive change.
What is your favourite aspect about working in the local area?
I am based in Welwyn Garden City but my parents live in Hampstead so I love to visit with my husband and two boys. Our favourite pastime is to walk on the Heath and indulge in an ice cream on the way home! There is a great sense of community in Hampstead, often bumping into family and friends we know.
What encouraged you to join Hampstead Hive and what has your experience within the Hive been like so far?
It was recommended to me as an opportunity to reach out and support local mums, and also an opportunity to meet other local business women. I spend so much time at my parents that it made sense, and working remotely means that I can be flexible for sessions without having to hire a room. I've met some of the Hive members for a coffee and look forward to meeting more over the coming months.
