Hampstead Hive Member Spotlight - Siobhan Smith

Tell us about your business, what services do you offer?

My name is Siobhan Smith and I have been supporting pregnant and new parents as a birth/postnatal doula and night nanny for the past 12 years. I provide educational and emotional support before, during and after the birth of a baby insuring continuity of care from the moment a clients books.

What is your greatest business achievement so far?

I would say my greatest achievement is when I finish working with a client because that means they have reached a point where they feel confident and ready to continue on the road of parenting having explored and learnt some of the hacks and techniques I am able to share with them, from helping to support a positive birth experience however they choose to birth their baby through to the common issues that arise following the birth such as sleep, feeding and general care of a newborn. I cover it all.

What one piece of advice would you like to offer someone thinking of entering into your field?

Advice I would give to anyone considering training to become a doula is to research the role first, find a training course that resinates with your ethos, values and beliefs. Finally, practice the art of listening rather than talking.

What is your favourite aspect about working in the local area?

What I love about working with clients in and around Hampstead is the community feel. There is always a specialist available within 10mins of the area too which is essential when you are a new parent.

What encouraged you to join Hampstead Hive and what has your experience been like so far within the Hive?

I was one of the founding members of the hive, I have know Jessica for many years. First meeting at a women’s networking group around 10 years ago. Being self employed can be quite lonely so having other like minded people around you to support and encourage you with ideas is essential to me.
